Easy Cinnamon Crumb Cake

What is Crumb Cake:

Crumb cake is a simple sponge cake with some of the dry mixture kept aside and sprinkled on top of the finished batter before baking.

Is Crumb Cake the same as Coffee Cake:

In the United States where I grew up crumb cake is the same as coffee cake.  Coffee cake does not contain any coffee but is the perfect cake to have with a cup of coffee just as the crumb. cake is.  They are basically the same recipe.

When do you eat Crumb Cake:

The perfect time to eat crumb cake/coffee cake is mid morning with a cup of coffee or afternoon with your cup of tea.  It is the perfect cake to have with the Swedish tradition of Fika (time to stop for a coffee and cake with friends in the afternoon).

Here is the recipe:

  12. Sprinkle the reserved dry mixture over the top of the batter, this doesn't have to be level as it is nice when you bite into an odd bit of extra crumb!

  13. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes. The cake is done when a toothpick or cake tester inserted into the middle comes out clean.

  14. Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes in the baking tin

  15. Cut into squares and leave to cool completely

  16. Enjoy with a cup of coffee or tea!
