Recipe: Valentine’s Day Cake
Nordic Ware have been making their iconic cast aluminium bundt baking tins since the early 1950s, constantly expanding their range. They have become collector’s items. I have a rather large collection and recently have been sent a Three Tiered Heart Shaped cake pan to review.

I was also sent a Mason Cash mixing bowl just like the old victorian ones but with heart shapes all around the sides (this mixing bowl also comes in pink and red!). I do love heart shaped things!

I always make a pink heart shaped cake for Valentine’s Day for Mr R along with everything else heart shaped!! Here is my recipe for the pink cake:-

- 226 grams Self raising flour
- 226 grams castor sugar
- 226 grams unsalted butter
- 4 large eggs
- 6-10 drops red food colouring add more or less to get desired colour
- 60 mil milk
- 5 mil vanilla essence
- 200 grams white chocolate broken into small pieces
- 100 mil double cream heated
- 4-6 drops red food colouring
-
Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F
-
Grease and flour a 12 cup bundt cake pan
-
Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy
-
Add eggs one at a time until fully mixed
-
Add pink colouring and vanilla essence
-
Add the self raising flour and mix well
-
Add the milk until the flour has a slightly more moving consistency
-
Check the colour and add more food colouring to get desired colour
-
Pour the cake mix into the prepared bundt cake pan
-
Bake in the cente of a pre-heated oven for 45-55 minutes
-
Remove from the oven and cool for 10 minutes before turning out onto a cake rack.
-
Let cool completely before icing.
-
To make the icing heat the cream but do not let it boil, pour over the white chocolate and let sit for 5 minutes before mixing. Add the red food colouring to the desired colour.
-
Drizzle the icing over the top of the cake and let it cascade down the layers.

What a beautiful cake mold – I can imagine making other things beside cake in it also – like custards or puddings!
I have a collection of heart shaped tins, plates and bowls. I love them!
