Discover Argentina’s Tucuman Province

When I think of Argentina I think of Cowboys, plates full of delicious beef and glasses of dark, cherry flavours of Malbec wine. But there is more, so much more!

Recently I have been introduced to Tucuman Province also called ‘The Land of Contrasts’, an area situated in the north of this very long country. It sounds like a really fabulous place and just the sort of place I would love to visit.

From what I have been told and have read what would I want to experience? Here are just a few things I look forward to:-

History

Although the smallest province in the country it is considered the heart of the history of the country. This area is known as the Cradle of Argentine Independence and its capital San Miguel de Tucuman keeps this identity alive. There are plenty of squares, churches and archaeological sites that help the visitor discover this history.

Adventure

A very diverse landscape entertains visitors with a plethora of exciting and diverse outdoor activities. Hiking, paragliding, kayaking and horseback riding allow tourists to see the vast and beautiful places of this province.

Gastronomy

Here is where I really get excited! With influences from Europe and the East there is a unique gastronomy based on local ingredients like corn, squash, citrus fruits, sugar cane honey, pork and of course the famous beef.

Some typical food products include tamales, fruit preserves roasted meats and locally produced cheeses and wines and those very well known Malbec wines.

But now lets talk about the empanadas! Some say these resemble the Cornish pasty, a pocket of pastry filled with local meats and vegetables for the workers to carry with them.  Some also say that the empanadas are a million miles away filled with their local ingredients and love!

Community Rural Tourism

One of the experiences I would really love to discover is the rural community tourism. The residents of the small town of Talapazo invite tourists to spend time with them, to share their customs and participate in their activities.  These include preparing typical dishes, learning the process of making cheese and of course wine making. This sounds like my ideal holiday!

Would you like to visit Argentina and especially the Tucuman Province? I certainly would and really hope this will become a reality soon.  Of course I will probably have to do the whole Evita thing and sing one of my favourite songs -“Don’t cry for me Argentina” but they will be tears of joy!!
