Devon: Salcombe Harbour Hotel
I was invited to Salcome in South Devon to attend Salcombe Gin School. As it was a 4 hour drive Mr R and I decided to stay a couple of nights and get to know the area a bit. We stayed at the Salcombe Harbour Hotel on the Saturday night.

The hotel sits right on the town side of the banks of the estuary offering a chance to sit and relax or keep an eye on the ever fascinating and busy water life.

I loved our bedroom complete with really comfortable bed, Nespresso coffee machine and a decanter of gin and sherry for guests to help themselves! I only remember drifting off to sleep and then it was morning and Mr R was making me a coffee!

Salcombe Harbour Hotel has a stylish restaurant called The Jetty with a whole wall of glass to allow stunning views of the estuary day and night. They serve local and seasonal dishes and use local seasonal produce whenever possible. The fish served is landed daily from local fishermen.
We had a delicious meal in the awesome dining room. I had an amuse bouche of tempura prawns in a light and crispy batter on a bed of samphire and with a chilli dipping sauce. I love tempura!

My starter was the Chunky Fish Soup – a fish & shell fish rich bisque. It was a huge bowl which I likened to a soup lagoon with prawns lurking at the deep bottom! The bisque was so rich, I could have eaten a whole ocean’s worth!!

My main course was Cod & Crab – a cod fillet topped with crab & herb crust served on a bed of creamy mash potatoes.

The hotel surprised us with a plate of deliciousness for our anniversary (8 years!!) and the following day was Mr R’s birthday – double celebration!!
There is a set price two or three course menu available or the a-la-carte which we had.
For breakfast I had to have a bowl of fresh fruit with Greek yoghurt and local honey, followed by the pancakes with fresh fruit and syrup! The perfect way to start the day along with a delicious cup of freshly brewed coffee!!

There is a luxury spa – HarSpa, with everything you need to emerge pampered, smooth and relaxed. They have a full range of treatments as well as pool and hot tub.

Down the hall from the HarSpa is a small gym room with essential equipment to keep up your daily routine.

For the kids there is even a cinema with real cinema seats and even a popcorn machine!

The hotel will also arrange a variety of local Salconbe experiences such as Sup Boarding, Scenic Kayak Tour, Salcombe Gin School, Days on the Waves, Landscape Photography Day, Night Sky Photography and even spending the day on a fishing boat with Fisherman’s Delight.
We had a great time exploring Salcomb in South Devon and are already thinking when we can get back – Expect when we finish the gin we brought home we will set off!!!
