Afternoon Tea: Leila Moroccan Afternoon Tea
Moroccan Afternoon Tea at Leila Ealing.
You may or not know but Afternoon Tea is my favourite meal! I love the classical, however it is a real treat to sample Afternoon Tea with a difference.
Recently I was invited to try the Moroccan Afternoon Tea at Leila Moroccan and Lebanese Restaurant in West London. The restaurant is a 3-4 minute walk from Ealing Common Underground Station on the Piccadilly Line which means easy access from Central London.
The restaurant was tastefully decorated in Moroccan decor and was comfortable and homely. It was a grey day when I was there with my fellow food bloggers Nayna and Manjiri but we were cosy and warm watching the deteriorating weather outside.
We were first given the opportunity to sample some of the Meze dishes. Oh my they were so delicious and authentic that it was hard not to eat too much however we had Afternoon Tea to follow! We had hummus topped with swirls of paprika and sprinkled with chick peas,
Baba Ganoush, aubergines delicately smoked over a flame then roasted and mashed into a delicious Meze dish toped with fresh pomegranate seeds,
Home made Falafel that were crispy on the outside but still warm and moist inside with a delicious salad of pickled vegetables and peppers,
Long thin flaky cigar shaped Cheese Rolls filled with a salty feta cheese were so flaky and delicious you could just sit there popping one into your mouth one after the other,
But I think my all time favourite was the individual Pastila Djaj, a traditional Moroccan chicken filo pastry pie filled with chicken, roasted almonds, sultanas and saffron.
Then just as we were settling into a food coma and looking for a comfortable cushion to nap on we were served a Moroccan Afternoon Tea which was what we were really there for! Afternoon Tea is my favourite ‘meal’ of the day and any day is a good day for Afternoon Tea!
We got through pots and pots of the delicious yet refreshing Moroccan Tea with fresh mint leaves to go with the awesome tower of food!
On the savoury plate we had Falafel Wraps (V), Shawarma Mini Rolls filled with chicken, lettuce and a light sauce as well as a Dainty Pastilla Djaj a filo pastry pillow filled with a shredded chicken, roasted almonds, sultanas and saffron mixture. There was also a small pot of Zaalouk – Aubergine slowly simmered in oil with special spices, tomato and garlic.
The sweet plate was piled with Argan Delice Slice with a date and pistachio filling topped with a lovely pistachio butter cream icing, an individual Victoria sponge with pomegranate, a cute little chocolate delight filled with delicate chocolate mousse and a Lebanese milk pudding with a hint of rosewater called Mohalabia. Along with the most delicious and crispy homemade Baklawa I have ever tasted!
As if this wasn’t enough there was a further plate with homemade cinnamon scones served with fruit jam and clotted cream and a delicately flavoured pistachio Madeleine cake and of course tea!
We stayed drinking that wonderful tea and nibbling for a couple of hours catching up with each other after ages. I am looking forward to visiting again for this amazing, authentic and Middle Eastern spread!

Wow! This looks like an amazing tea! Is Moroccan tea similar to Turkish tea at all? I’m intrigued.
They have two types of Moroccan tea, one with actual black tea and the other just mint leaves.

I love afternoon teas as well and have tried two in London so far. None as exotic as this one though. The food looks so delicious, especially the savoury treats. And the baclava – that’s one of my favorite special desserts, but it’s hard to find a good one, soaked in a lot of syrup.
The baklava was the best I have ever tasted! Not too sticky and still very crispy pastry – heavenly!
This sounds like a great day out – I am a big afternoon tea fan too and the afternoon tea here looks amazing. All the food they served you looks ever so delicious.

Tea is one of my favourite drinks. Taking a cup of tea at a restaurant is what I do frequently.
