Traditional Welsh Tea in a Gift Box
Traditional Welsh Tea in a Gift Box
(ad-gift)
Anyone who knows me is well aware that my favourite meal of the day is Afternoon Tea! This current coronavirus pandemic has changed how we get out and go to our favourite places for Afternoon Tea.
This current climate has encouraged more people to order on line from their favourite shops, pubs, restaurants as well as distilleries, bakers and so many more.
One company doing their best to satisfy the Afternoon Tea desire and also to help local producers is Daffodil Foods. Located in the foothills of Snowdonia in North Wales they put together this Afternoon Tea but all from local Welsh producers.

Daffodil Foods themselves make gloriously rich and silky Welsh Clotted Cream and fruit compote. Each Afternoon Tea serves four people and contains four small pots of clotted cream and two small pots of fruit puree. Of course these two items bring out the eternally divided question – Scones with jam first or cream first! I am in the jam first camp!

Contents of the Welsh Afternoon Tea Gift Box:-
Daffodil Foods Welsh Clotted Cream pots x 4 and Raspberry Compote pots x 2,
Flaming Good Bakers from their Popty Bakery included six traditional Welsh Cakes. They are made using a traditional family recipe by the third generations of the Williams family in the foot hills of Snowdonia. They are rich, moist, fruited tea time treats to be enjoyed as they come or slightly warmed and spread with butter (Welsh of course) and jam.
When I visited Cardiff a couple of years ago for a conference I attended a class to learn how to make traditional Welsh Cakes. There is a knack to it but boy are they good straight from the griddle pan!
Also from Flaming Good Bakers is the Traditional Bara Brith Fruit Cake. I have been making Bara Brith for many years. It is a rich and very luxurious fruit cake. This one was really nice and moist and the girls I invited to share it with loved it.
The Jones’ Family Bakery Welsh family bakers since 1934 made the four fruit scones. They were fresh and moist. I hate it when scones are dry and crumble as you try to fill them.
This of course means we have to talk about the elephant in the room. Jam first or cream first. Believe it or not people are divided on this subject and arguments break out when this is being discussed. Of course it should new jam first – right!

There is a block (200gm) of Extra Mature Cheddar cheese also from Colliers. This cheese is made with 100% Welsh cows milk. The cheese is perfect for making some finger sandwiches to go with your Afternoon Tea. Of course if you have any cheddar left over it would be perfect to make Welsh Rarebit.
Also included is a 250gm block of butter from Colliers (250gm). The mild for their cheese and butter comes from happy, contented cows that graze the lush green Welsh valleys.
This Welsh Afternoon Tea Gift Box is perfect to order to be sent to a loved one you cannot see during this lockdown, someone with a celebration birthday or anniversary or just to treat someone for no reason at all!
And finally there are four tea bags from Murroughs Welsh Brew. This gift box is enough for four people and so four pots of tea can be made from the tea bags.

I loved my Welsh afternoon tea from Daffodil Foods! It was so lovely to see so many Welsh producers included in the box. I especially loved the fruity scones and bara brith and I am still working my way through the cheese!
I really liked the welsh cakes. I remember learning how to make them when I visited Cardiff a couple of years ago!
