Carters Fun Fair – Take Me To The Fair
How many times in the past have you seen the posters that the fair is in town? Did you think I wouldn’t go there it will be too busy and too expensive? I must admit I thought that on many occasions.

When Carters Steam Fair asked me if I would like to attend when they were near my house, at their Hemel Hempstead venue, I thought why not! So I grabbed a couple of grandchildren and off we went!

We got there early in the day as to avoid the crowds. I hate being in really crowded venues. We queued up to get in, I collected my bundle of tickets (which were given to me to have a good time by the organisers) and off we went to have a great time.

My youngest grandson is just four and he was so excited! He could hardly contain himself as we started to take the rides. I really wanted to go on the carousel so Nanny (me) and Smallest got on and went up and down and round and round for what seemed like a really long ride. We waved to people watching and posed for the cameras.

I really loved the vibrant colours and the vintage rides. The whole atmosphere was happy and everyone had a great time.

Entry to the fair is free to everyone and you can buy tokens for the rides. Tokens cost £0.50 each and rides take either 5 tokens (smaller children rides) or 6 tokens for the others. The swing boats are 4 tokens per person.

The vehicles of Carters Steam Fair are all vintage fairground rides beautifully painted and restored. You can even book courses to learn sign painting at their base in Maidenhead later in the year. Joby Carter is passionate about his vehicles and wants to keep the skills of restoring them alive.

The vintage fairground rides date from the 1890s to the 1960s and have featured in many films over the years.

I for one will be looking out for the Carters Steam Fair next year when it comes to town. I did notice a sign that they were looking for staff and for a brief moment (well alright quite a few moments) I really thought of running away and joining the fair!
