Recently for National Hot Chocolate Day I wanted to mark the occasion. My friend and fellow blogger Nikki (Tikkido.com) has a recipe on her blog so we decided to make it together on my weekly instagram live.

What ingredients are in the hot chocolate mix?

You need:

Nesquick instant chocolate drink, powdered milk, non-dairy creamer (I used ‘CoffeeMate’), icing sugar, cocoa powder, pinch of salt.

Packages of main ingredients
You can use any brands you prefer.

What powdered milk alternatives can you use?

You can use any powdered milk alternative. I used a lactose-free semi-skimmed milk however could have used powdered oat milk or powdered coconut milk.

Do you need any special equipment for this?

No special equipment is needed.  You will however need a very large bowl or container because the recipe will make a lot! A whisk is also helpful however a couple of large spoons will also work.

What is the method to make this delicious hot chocolate mix?

Basically you measure all of the ingredients into a large bowl, thoroughly mix together and put into containers.

What variations can you make?

You can add powdered peanut butter for a lovely liquid peanut butter cup!  Either add it into the container to make it all a peanut butter hot chocolate or just add a few teaspoon to your cup when you are ready to make some.

Another variation is Mexican – add ground chilli powder (mild or spicy to suit your taste) and ground cinnamon.

How do you serve this hot chocolate mix?

Fill your cup to about 2/3rd hot chocolate mix and add boiling water to fill.  Stir until completely mixed.  Top with marshmallows or shipped cream.  Sip carefully as the liquid will be hot underneath the marshmallows or whipped cream.
