New Year Aspirations for 2021

Do you have aspirations for 2021?

Every year thousands of people make New Year’s Resolutions on New Year’s Eve and usually by the third week of January they have either forgotten or given up.  So this year I have decided not to make a resolution and instead focus on aspirations.

What would you like to aspire to doing, achieving or learning in 2021?  Personally I have a few:-

  1. I am a food blogger and this coming year I will be trying to step out of my comfort zone and learn how to make some foods I have always thought I wasn’t able to make such as soufflés! I want to be able to whip up a souffle at a moment’s notice.
  2. I have a long ‘to-do’ list that I want to get to grips with.  I can find any number of reasons to start looking at social media and can get lost for hours. Several hours later and stupid inane videos watched I remember I was about to do something on my list!
  3. I want to organise my environment. I will seriously be looking at my home one room at a time to see what I can sort out, recycle and take to charity shops. (as we are in lockdown I will have plenty of time to do this without the interruption of shopping and eating out.
  4. I also want to do grow my self esteem either by using a life coach, reading relevant books or just a new lipstick or hair cut.
  5. But most of all this coming year, 2021, I want to enjoy every experience, not taking anything for granted. Being there for family and friends and accepting ‘it is what it is’!

Some friends of mine have shared their aspirations for 2021 with me. I thought you might like to read them:-

Sisley White who write the blog Sew White says “My aspiration for 2021 is to continue treating my blog as my business. I want to nurture it and grow it until it supports me as my own salary. I love my blog and the work I do on it and although it can be frustrating at times I can see it being my income as well as a subject I love.”

Emma Walton-Moore whose blog is Supper In The Suburbs says “On the blog front I’m focussing on creating content I LOVE and enjoying the process. On a personal level I will be working on my self-esteem! No more listening to those who make me think I’m difficult or hard to love! Only then can positive change happen.”

Kavita Favelle write her blog Kavey Eats says:- “I have been planning a site rebrand and redesign for a couple of years so I’m hoping 2021 will be the year that happens. I also want to focus on the reason I blog, which is for pleasure, rather than get caught up in trying to compete with professional bloggers.”
Tin and Thyme blogger Choclette Ammar writes:- “I’ve been baulking at doing proper keyword research to plan my blog posts, but I think I’m now ready to tackle it. So 2021 will be the year when I actually try to create posts that people are searching for.”
My friend Manjiri Chitnis writes her blog Travels for Taste and feels:-“Ever since I started my food and travel blog, I have tried to keep it going alongside my main work, though it is not something I am looking at as a source of income, am hoping to add new content at my own pace, clean up the look and feel and breathe new life into my blog. I want it to be a reflection of my passion for cooking and my travel experiences.”

  • Good call to have aspirations rather than resolutions. The trouble with resolutions is that they just make you feel bad when you don’t stick to them. I think I’m going to manage to finish Veganuary though. This is my third year doing it and I’m getting used to it.
