Idahoan Potatoes Taste Challenge and a Giveaway
Do you think you could pass the Idahoan Potato Challenge? I have tried instant mashed potatoes in the past and they were really weird – you could really tell they were never hanging around the potato patch!
The American state of Idaho has a rich volcanic soil and clear mountain water making it a perfect place to grow potatoes and in fact potatoes from Idaho are among the most popular potatoes in American supermarkets and homes.
I was invited to an event hosted by Idahoan where the tasting menu would be made up of a mixture of items that were made with potatoes and items that were made with the Idahoan. We would not be told which was which and had to write down which we felt was made from the real potato or the instant Idahoan.
We had croquettes, crab gnocchi with sea herbs & veloute, pressed potato with three cheese sauce, onion, truffle, cottage pie, potato-fried quail potato biscuit & maple syrup, honey potato cake with figs, yoghurt sorbet with honeycomb and potato truffles – all developed by Billy & Jack for the event.

I think my favourite potato based recipe would probably have to be a corned beef hash.
Potatoes are so versatile….I like making a cheesy dauphinoise potato to go with a roast chicken…..

We do sliced potatoes, with bacon, cheese, stock under the grill. It's lovely xx
I love dauphinoise potatoes – my mil used to cook potatoes like this fairly often xx
Mine is a sort of Spanish Omelette thing. I use Hash Browns, or any leftover cooked potatoes I have to hand. Then I add pretty much any meat and/or veg I have. If I have no leftovers, I raid the freezer, mainly for frozen veg. I fry it, then add beaten egg. Finish under the grill. It's always delicious.

I can't think of a potato recipe I don't like. But I think my favourite is curly fries.
This might be a bit strange, but I get left over boiled potatoes, chop them up and fry them and have them with toast and tomato sauce. Great comfort food.
Fritta is a good go to for us..so easy to use up all the veg thats going soft and random scraps , make a huge one on a skillet then top with cheese and grill the top and pop it on the table, easy!
For me a bit of a treat is Potato Gratin Dauphinoise, really yummy!

I have to admit that I have never tried instant mashed potatoes before; all of the dishes that you tried look delicious though!
